NOTE ABOUT TSUNAMIS

The recent tsunami occurred in the northeast of Japan has raised interest in the subject and in particular on the possibility of tsunamis in the Mediterranean Sea area.

The research carried out at the Centre for Advanced Studies of Blanes are not specifically aimed at assessing or preventing risks of tsunamis. Therefore, we can not provide first-hand information about it.

In Catalonia, a submarine seismograph was installed in 2005 to 50 km off the coast of Tarragona, near Casablanca oil platform. The seismometer is integrated in the Catalan Seismic Network maintained the Geological Survey of the Cartographic Institute of Catalonia (http://www.icc.es/sismes).
